Help the Amazon Forest – How to Engage With Real Projects
The urge to help the Amazon Forest is more urgent each day. In August 2022 alone, INPE (National Institute for Space Research – Instituto Nacional de Pesquisa Espaciais in Portuguese) identified an increase of 81% over the same period in 2021. These frightening data reveal how much we need to rethink our actions and decisions in search of real changes to stop this advance.
The Amazon is one of the main biodiversity in the world, being recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In addition, it is one of those responsible for climate balance and even global warming, because natural phenomena are integrated.
They support each other to offer the best of the air, climate, water, and land for humanity. But if humanity does not care for it, nor preserve and conserve the environment, nature cannot do its job.
In this post, we invite you to understand the importance of the Amazon and how you can help fight deforestation. Day-to-day decisions can make a difference in the health of the Amazon, from political decisions to lifestyle decisions.
In addition, companies can articulate actions and projects that reduce negative impacts on the environment.

Why is the Amazon so important to the Brazilian and world biome?
The immensity of the biodiversity of the Amazon causes direct and indirect impacts in several places in Brazil and in the world. This happens because natural relationships interact, complement each other and help in the functioning of natural phenomena. That’s why Amazon is so important to everyone.
Did you know that the remnants of the sandstorm in Africa reach the Amazon? And did you know that, in the forest, they impact the production of water that will be sent to the Andes Mountain Range? This water arrives through flying rivers and will be transformed into the rain, distributed throughout South America. Now you can see how nature communicates, as there are no geographical borders for it.
Thinking about all these relationships, no one can deny the importance of Amazon. And that was just one example of so many other activities that take place in the forest. In addition to influencing the regime and regulation of rainfall, the Amazon also stores billions of tons of carbon. To complete this, all the biodiversity maintains species in the fauna and flora crucial for food and the production of medicines, among other functions.
What are the causes of deforestation in the Amazon?
There is an urgency in helping the Amazon Forest end deforestation. According to data from INPE (National Institute for Space Research), there was a growth of 81% in it. The data refer to this year up to the month of August, compared to the same period in 2021. To have an idea, in August 2022 alone, the lost area is larger than the city of São Paulo.
For INPE, the main causes of deforestation in the Amazon continue to be:
– High rates of fires;
– Crimes in the Amazon.
The fires are related to arson, that is, the result of human actions. Usually, they happen to ‘free up’ areas for plantation, animal husbandry, livestock, and irregular land appropriation. INPE has developed a platform, Terra Brasilis, to update the situation of deforestation in the Amazon. Click here and check the data.
Crimes in the Amazon range from illegal logging to crimes against traditional peoples. The indigenous people, riverside dwellers, quilombolas, and others are true guardians of the rainforest. Sometimes, these are the ones who take a stand against the destruction of the Rainforest.
In August, Pará remains the state in the Brazilian Legal Amazon region with the largest deforested area. The second place is Mato Grosso. In fact, deforestation has advanced through the south of Amazonas, on the border with Mato Grosso and Rondônia. It is definitely not a podium that the states yearn to be present on, much less lead.
How to help the Amazon Forest?
Involvement in the fight against deforestation in the Amazon must take place on all fronts: individuals, companies, and the government. The efficiency of public policies is essential for the preservation and conservation of the Amazon, establishing limits and rules for the well-being of the forest. In this case, it is up to citizens to pay attention to policy proposals on care for the environment.
Companies can collaborate by applying sustainable practices within their organization, improving impacts on nature and society. ESG practice and the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals are good directions to follow the path of sustainability. The involvement of these entities is important to prevent the progress of irreversible effects caused by deforestation.
Citizens can pay attention to their lifestyle, questioning their commitment to the environment. What is the impact of your life on the life of society and nature? Is it possible to review some purchase decisions, including the way of living, to improve this situation? These questions are classic for a conscientious consumer and a citizen attuned to environmental emergencies.
It is worth remembering that 60% of the territory of the Legal Amazon is in Brazil, so we need to move. In addition to questioning, it is also possible to participate in special movements, such as planting trees in the Amazon.
Take this moment to find out about the subject, in this post we separate 15 unmissable documentaries about the environment. Documentaries are available on the main streams and are a great way to learn more about the forest and nature.

Find out how Redda+ and you can help preserve the Amazon
Redda+ is an organization concerned with developing projects that help fight deforestation in the Amazon. For this, the projects seek to offer an improvement in the quality of life of traditional populations. We try to reconcile the sustainable development of these communities with the conservation of biodiversity. After all, we believe that it is possible to have harmony between human beings and the forest.
The fight against deforestation does not deny the importance of taking care of those who live in the forest. And, in addition to being guardians, they also need the forest as a source of livelihood to find food and work. In this integration, we learn and teach about who the Amazon forest is and how to maintain a sustainable relationship.
Redda+ projects are supported by pillars that consider economic, social, cultural and environmental development. Everything is built on the basis of information acquired in loco, to make sense of the actions that will be carried out. Care is also taken to maintain REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) mechanisms.
Through these mechanisms, we seek alternatives to help offset excessive carbon emissions. One of Redda+’s main projects takes place in Portel, Pará, and has yielded good results. This year, we were honored to participate in the Solidarity Health Project. Click here to learn more about Redda+’s actions and how you can be part of this commitment to helping Amazon.
